Boston Mom, Pakistan-born neuroscientist and terror suspect Aafia Siddqui turned up in a US Military Prison in Afghanistan recently after going missing for several years. Still missing however are her three children. Recently one news report suggested that her eldest son, an 11 year old, who happens to be a USA citizen by birth, is being held in an Afghan prison. If true, the complicity or inaction of USA authorities would be a serious cause of concern.
The fate of her younger two children is even more mysterious, even macabre. Initially some reports suggested that they were with their father, an anestheologist based in Karachi, Pakistan, who is separated from Aafia. But subsequently it turned out that the children's father is as much in the dark about the fate of his children as anyone else.
During Aafia's "missing years" persistent media reports in Chinese and other world press reported that a woman matching Aafia's description was incarcerated in the US Military Base of Bagram in Afghanistan. Owing to USA denials, the woman, whose mental health was reported to be unstable, was referred to as "The Ghost of Bagram."
A day after USA authorities in Afghanistan acknowledged that Aafia was in their possession, she was whisked off to Gitmo, the notorious US base in Cuba, after allegedly shooting at American officials. Eye witnesses reported hearing no gun fire however, and it was Aafia who was actually hit by a bullet. Her condition is reported to be continuously declining and the Pakistan Government has conveyed its concern officially to USA authorities after the recent democratically elected Pakistan parliament condemned her illegal incarceration in a resolution and called for a trial in a court of law or else deportation to Pakistan.
