GHALANAI: At least six artillery shells fired from across the border landed close to a security post near Pak-Afghan border in Mohmand Agency, local residents said. Two gunship helicopters were also reported to have violated Pakistani airspace and flown over the area for several hours. “ Six shells landed near Gura Parai checkpoint in Soran Dara close to the western border,” a local resident Rasool Khal told The News. Residents have not identified the shells but told that the shells have been fired from across the border, probably from Sarkani district of Kunar. It is worth mentioning that he unmanned Drone spy planes have been regularly flying over the tribal areas of Pakistan for reconnaissance. They have also carried out missile strikes targeting hideouts of suspected Taliban and Al-Qaeda remnants inside Pakistani territory that have claimed scores of lives in Bajaur and Waziristan agencies. Meanwhile an American paper has quoted President Asif Ali Zardari as saying Pakistan has permitted the US missile strikes on Taliban and Al-Qaeda inside Pakistan, a claim continuously denied by Islamabad.
