By now we are all up to our ears in auto industry bailout junk. Instead of regurgitating the obvious, I'm just going to give my dos centavos.
Why is it that these CEOs and other executive mucky-mucks are made out to be so irreplacable? One would think that to be in such high places you'd have to actually be good at what you do. I don't know about anyone else but if I only had the numbers to go by, I'd say these guys were pretty bad at their jobs. Either that or we really ARE living in the Bizarro World where everything's backwards.
They should be fired. All of them. Don't tell me that there aren't any people around who could totally kick butt in these places for a LOT less money and perks. I refuse to believe it. I'd be willing to bet that if an ad was posted to replace these clowns, a lot of good, qualified people would come out of the woodwork.
The Big 3 bigwigs should sell off their assets before begging for money from the People. It's the absolute least they could do. The guy who is only going to make the $1 salary is full of it. I wonder what perks are hidden from our view (and how much they're worth). As with the mortgage and bank people, the money is ill-gotten, therefore they need to make the money healthy again by putting it back where it belongs. I have a feeling that if they did, the amount of debt that's lifted would be astounding. A gal can dream, can't she?
One thing that I found funny was how one CEO said he had to use the private jet for his own protection. Really? Protection from who? Oh. Your employees, perhaps? We the People, maybe? I dunno. I believe that this guy needs to take some serious courses in common courtesy and respect for others, especially when those "others" are the ones who keep a roof over his head and food on his table. This whole "bite the hand that feeds you or better yet, chomp it off at the shoulder!" mentality has clearly gotten old. Or is it the Bizarro World again?
I'm sure that the story will only become more outrageous as time goes on.
